A festive and flavorful appetizer featuring creamy, tangy cranberry&jalapeño filling wrapped in crispy wonton wrappers—perfect for parties and holiday gatherings.

I first made these poppers for a holiday party last winter and they quickly became everyone's favorite appetizer: the colorful cranberries and jalapeños make each bite burst with flavor.

Ingredients

  • Fresh cranberries: 1 cup (120 g), finely chopped
  • Jalapeños: 2 medium, seeded and finely diced
  • Green onions: 3, finely sliced
  • Sugar: 2 tablespoons
  • Salt: 1/4 teaspoon
  • Cream cheese: 8 oz (225 g), softened
  • Sour cream: 1/2 cup (120 g)
  • Sharp cheddar cheese: 1/2 cup (60 g), shredded
  • Wonton wrappers: 24
  • Egg: 1, beaten (for sealing)
  • Vegetable oil: For frying

Instructions

Macerate cranberries:
In a bowl, combine chopped cranberries, jalapeños, green onions, sugar, and salt. Let sit for 10 minutes to macerate.
Prepare cheese filling:
In a separate bowl, blend cream cheese, sour cream, and cheddar cheese until smooth.
Mix it all together:
Fold the cranberry-jalapeño mixture into the cheese mixture until evenly combined.
Fill wrappers:
Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of filling into the center.
Seal wrappers:
Brush the edges of the wrapper with beaten egg. Fold into a triangle or bring corners together to seal tightly. Repeat with remaining wrappers and filling.
Fry poppers:
Heat about 1 inch of vegetable oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).
Cook until golden:
Fry poppers in batches for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
Serve:
Serve warm, garnished with extra green onions if desired.
